Set within one of New Delhi’s most prestigious residential enclaves, Vama is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the grand estates that define the capital’s historic urban fabric. Rather than borrowing from classical architecture literally, the project distills its enduring principles, proportion, symmetry, rhythm and monumentality, into a language that is unmistakably modern.
The residence is organized as a sequence of interconnected volumes woven around landscaped courts, water features and open-to-sky spaces. At its heart, a double-height courtyard becomes the spatial anchor of the home, drawing daylight deep into the interiors while establishing visual continuity between the various living environments. This deliberate interplay between built form and void creates an architecture that feels expansive yet deeply intimate.
The design is driven by a composition of freestanding walls that intersect and frame the inhabited volumes. These architectural planes establish privacy, choreograph movement and create a constantly shifting experience of light and shadow throughout the day. Rather than presenting a singular object, the residence unfolds as a layered landscape of thresholds, gardens and pavilions.
A restrained material palette further reinforces the architectural narrative. Deep reveals, textured surfaces and carefully articulated edges capture the changing qualities of natural light, lending depth and tactility to the façades. Large glazed openings are strategically recessed within the composition, balancing transparency with environmental responsiveness while framing curated views of the surrounding landscape
