New Delhi
Set within a leafy plot on Prithviraj Road, the residence takes its cues from the conditions already present on the site: mature vegetation, strong solar exposure, and the need for privacy within a prominent urban setting. Rather than asserting itself as a singular built object, the home is composed through a series of solid volumes, open courts, shaded thresholds, and landscaped spill-out spaces that allow it to settle more gently into its surroundings. The architecture unfolds as an arrangement of enclosure and release, giving the landscape an active role in shaping both movement and atmosphere.
Its planning is at once exacting and climatically responsive. A more solid edge along the south and south-west protects the interiors from harsher sun and heat gain, while the principal living spaces, openings, and courtyards turn towards the north and north-east to draw in softer daylight, air, and garden views. The footprint is carefully adjusted around existing trees and outdoor rooms, so that the landscape is not treated as an afterthought but as one of the primary forces through which the home is formed.
Materially, the expression is restrained yet deeply considered. Timber screens, textured walls, long horizontal planes, and precisely framed glazing lend the residence a composed and enduring presence. The pool terrace, decks, and internal courts extend domestic life beyond enclosed rooms, creating an environment that remains sheltered without feeling closed, and open without ever surrendering its sense of discretion. What lingers is less a display of scale than a particular quality of inhabitation: a home in which shade, light, garden, and enclosure are brought into a calm and lasting equilibrium.
