A Workplace Defined by Art and Culture

A headquarters where artistic identity, spatial experience and contemporary work culture converge

Located in the cultural heart of Kolkata, the RP–SG Corporate Office is conceived as a workplace where art becomes the fundamental generator of space and experience. The client, an avid patron and collector of contemporary Indian art, inspired a design approach that integrates artistic expression into the very structure of the building. The aim was to create a workplace capable of stimulating intellect, nurturing creativity and imparting a sense of cultural rootedness. This vision aligns with the new work paradigm in which the boundaries between work, social life and personal life are increasingly fluid, necessitating environments that are visually rich, emotionally engaging and experientially meaningful.

The morphology of the project is centred on the creation of an iconic spatial identity shaped by a three-dimensional architectural construct. At its heart lies a diagonally staggered atrium, inspired by a multi-tiered stepped terrace. This terraced void exposes spaces in layers, producing a dynamic visual field where artworks are framed in the immediate foreground while others reveal themselves gradually from a distance. The building becomes a container of artistic diversity, one in which culture is inseparable from the patterns of daily work. The stepped atrium draws people upward and across, encouraging movement and discovery, and transforming circulation routes into cultural journeys.

Through this approach, the corporate office becomes more than a functional workplace. It is an environment that responds to the organisation’s identity, reinforcing its character and aspirations through art, space and sociocultural meaning. The design frames a new understanding of the workplace as a setting that connects visually, culturally and socially with its occupants, offering a distinct and inspiring headquarters for the RP–SG Group.
