Set within Pushpanjali Farms in New Delhi, the residence is defined by a question more nuanced than simple enlargement: how to extend an existing home without unsettling its underlying composure. The response is neither mimicry nor contrast, but continuity. The new intervention is conceived as a natural extension of the original structure, drawing old and new into a shared architectural language through proportion, material consistency, and spatial flow. The retention of the original fifteen-foot ground-floor height is central to this effort, preserving a sense of equilibrium across the expanded plan and lending the home an unusual internal coherence.

Its architectural expression draws on a tropical sensibility, articulated through natural stone, warm timber, and a reinterpreted jaali that gives the built form both depth and permeability. Rather than depending on overt formal gestures, the design works through gradation: connected volumes, layered thresholds, and carefully placed openings modulate movement through the home while producing subtle shifts in light, privacy, and atmosphere.

The most affecting intervention lies in the use of sunken courts, particularly a triple-height court at basement level that draws daylight deep into the interior while introducing a strong vertical dimension to the experience of the house. These courts do more than illuminate. They organise living, entertainment, gym, and lobby spaces, improve ventilation, and establish a more porous relationship between the different levels of the home. The arrival court performs a similarly important role, lending entry a sense of ceremony while reinforcing the idea of the residence as a sequence of unfolding spaces.
