Located along an expressway in Noida, the India Glycols Headquarters adopts an introverted strategy inspired by the fortified forms of Fatehpur Sikri. Robust outer walls shield the workplace from heat and visual chaos, while a series of landscaped internal courtyards create a calm, climate-responsive environment. Interlocking volumes draw daylight deep into the plan, frame garden views, and maintain a continuous connection between workspaces and nature.

The architecture addresses energy, heat and lighting with equal priority: economising energy use, countering extreme heat and optimising natural daylight. Shallow eight-metre-wide floor plates allow the internal courtyards to remain visually and physically linked to every workspace, resulting in a naturally lit, blinds-free office. Microclimate modulation is achieved through multiple shallow water bodies and mist gardens inspired by traditional baoli and kund systems. These interventions lower perceived internal temperatures by up to ten degrees Celsius through evaporative cooling, creating ambient comfort in a region where outdoor conditions are often uninhabitable. The self-shading massing of the building, coupled with cavity walls, calibrated fenestration, terrace gardens and water features, further reduces heat ingress and transforms outdoor spaces into usable areas for much of the year.

The rhythmic articulation of internal volumes departs from conventional sealed-glass office typologies, producing a campus that expands the sense of personal space while supporting social interaction and idea exchange. Courtyards, shaded corridors and collaborative zones foster a culture of equity and transparency, reflecting the organisation’s values in spatial form. By combining traditional environmental wisdom with contemporary workplace aspirations, the India Glycols Headquarters establishes a model for sustainable, culturally grounded and climate-attuned office design, and marks a milestone in the firm’s portfolio with its fifth Indian Institute of Architects Award.
