Xchange Plaza

The Xchange Plaza is conceived as a landmark office building aligned with the emerging identity of India’s premier financial district. The project positions itself as a contemporary commercial address of strong institutional character, shaped to project visibility, credibility, and urban presence while responding with equal care to the climatic demands of Ahmedabad.

The tower is planned as an 18-storey commercial building above two basement levels, rising to an overall height of 82.5 metres. Its programme is organised with a double-height entrance lobby at ground level, a food court on the first floor, and modular office spaces across the typical upper floors. At the top, the highest office level opens onto an overlooking terrace that may be leased as executive workspace, introducing a more privileged and differentiated work environment within the building. This vertical arrangement establishes a clear hierarchy from public to private, while reinforcing legibility of movement and a more assured experience of arrival.

Architecturally, the building is structured around the contrast between a glazed front and a more solid rear elevation, linked by a central corridor spine. Stone cladding, spandrel panels, fritted glazing, and vertical shading devices are employed to reduce the window-to-wall ratio and mitigate solar gain, while maintaining a crisp and disciplined commercial expression.

A particularly distinctive element within this composition is the refuge tower, titled Tree of Life. Rather than being treated as a purely utilitarian fire and refuge shaft, it is developed as a vertical marker integral to the identity of the project. Conceived as both symbolic and functional, it is articulated through a dedicated material palette of corten steel, glass railing, and a ticker-tape digital display. In doing so, it assumes a dual role: performing an essential safety function while also becoming the building’s most recognisable emblem on the skyline.

The project ultimately balances performance and presence with unusual clarity, shaping a workplace address that is environmentally responsive, institutionally resonant, and architecturally memorable.
